Arts in Education Grants fund school programs
Teachers of Lafayette schools may apply for a grant to support arts-related projects with local students. The Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission (LCAC) is proud to offer Arts in Education Grants to local schools and teachers for the 8th year in a row. The deadline for application is Dec. 15.
The LCAC awards money, not exceeding $500 per grant, to fund projects in Lafayette schools.These projects may include performance or group art activities with an educational focus or participatory learning opportunities. Teachers may submit an online grant application at the City of Lafayette website; www.cityoflafayette.com/aiegrant.  Grant applications are due December 15. All projects receiving grant money need to be complete by May 24, 2014.


Window Painting Winners
Ninety-five Lafayette students participated in the 3rd annual Window Painting Contest in October.  The contest was sponsored by Project YES, pARTiculars, the Lafayette Old Town Association, the City of Lafayette and the Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission.  Paintings were judged by professional artists and winning  artists will receive ribbons and awards at a ceremony on Friday, November 1.

Theatre Classes for Kids
Public Works Theatre Company is teaching its final fall session at the Bob Berger Recreation Center. Theatre Improvisation Games for ages 9-12 is on Wednesdays from 3:45-4:45pm, and Clown for ages 7-11 is on Wednesdays from 4:45-5:45pm. Classes run 11/6-12/11. WOW! Children's Museum offers arts programs
Dia de los Muertos Sugar Skull Creations
, Nov. 1, 11:00am-Noon
Children are invited to decorate their own traditional Mexican sugar skulls and learn more about Dia de los Muertos during this special workshop lead by CHAC.  This special event is included with Museum admission, however, participation will be limited to the first 20 children attending the workshop.


WOW!'s 17th Birthday Party,  Nov. 16, 11:00am-Noon
 WOW! is turning 17 and you're invited to help us celebrate!  Enjoy a special classical music performance by the Boulder Bach Trio, crafts, face painting and refreshments.  All included with Museum admission.

WOW! Mural Installation, November 11
On Nov. 11, WOW! visitors are invited to help paint a new mural in WOW's Activity Rooms. Images for the mural theme of Play, Learn, Imagine were brainstormed by Project Yes volunteers and designed into a mural by local artist Sarah Spencer.  This community project was sponsored by a grant from LCAC.

pARTiculars offers art for the whole family
November at pARTiculars:  ART, community, and the ART of Gifting. 

Student ART Show all month long.   Friday, November 15 reception and award ceremony 7pm. 

ALSO join us early on Friday November 15 for an ART gift workshop  4:30-6:45 - Make your own felted penguin $15, or felted snowman $10, or a snowman gift tag activity for the younger  kids $5.

Poetry & Music at the Library

Poetry Reading

Enjoy poetry readings from Colorado's poet laureate, Dave Mason, as well as from local poets and Poetry Lab workshop attendees.
This project is supported by the Lafayette Cultural Resources Commission.


Community Music ~ All That Jazz
~ Saturday, November 9, 1 pm
Join members of the Center for Musical Arts Jazz Improv Intermediate Ensemble for a swinging good time! Featuring sax, trumpet, keyboard, bass, trombone, flute, and even a librarian on vocals! Led by Steve Christopher. Presented by CMA and Friends of the Lafayette Library Foundation.

Jubilate Sacred Singers ~ Sunday, November 17, 3 pm
Enjoy the joyful voices of Boulder’s Jubilate Sacred Singers in a seasonal concert of old and new favorites.


Center for Musical Arts - November events
November 2 - The Center for Musical Arts will host a Dalcroze Workshop for musicians, dancers and music educators.  This workshop, presented by the Dalcroze School of the Rockies, will feature Ruth Alperson, dean of the Hoff-Barthelson Music School in NY.  For more information visit: http://rockies.dalcrozeusa.org/.

The Kaleidoscope Concert Series (This project funded in part by a grant from the Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission, an agency of the Lafayette City Council) will continue with the Matt Flinner Trio on November 16.  There will be a FREE family-friendly show at 5pm and with a regular concert at 7:30pm.  The Matt Flinner Trio "blurs the lines between jazz and bluegrass, traditional and avantgarde...(AP)."  For tickets or more information visit comusic.org/concerts-events/kaleidoscope-concerts/.

Ride the Colorado Rails of History
Take a trip through Colorado History as Larry Dorsey of the Colorado Railroad Museum presents a program on the history of railroad in the Centennial State.

BOOK ARTS LEAGUE WORKSHOP:

 Lino and Letterpress Holiday Cards  NOV 16
Learn to carve linoleum block images and print them with metal type in the League's letterpress studio with Julia Seko and Vivian Jean. Students will create lovely cards suitable for special correspondence or as great holiday gifts. You’ll be introduced to the tools and materials of linoleum block carving and to basic letterpress printing techniques, including typesetting and printing on the Vandercook press.

Experience Our Galleries

The Library Gallery is showing EcoArts "Stories for a New Future" Mural Project.  These murals were created by 18 studeitns at Angevine Middle School in Katie David's Painting and Drawing Class with the guidence of visual artist Jolt.  Enjoy this vibrant, exciting work!

Sarah Rockinger   photo project, entitled, "I volunteer because..." is also on display at the Lafayette Public Library. Come see some of Lafayette's volunteers in this delightful photography exhibit.

The See and Respond show is on display at the City Hall Alcove Gallery.

Arts  Classroom Rental:   The Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission has a room available for rent in the  lower level of the Public Library.  The  fee is  $25/hr for the  first three hours then $10/hr for additional  hours.  Rental is  limited to arts and cultural groups.  For more information on the  availability of this room contact Susan Booker at susanb@cityoflafayette.com or  303-665-5588 X3353.
